Italy's Matteo Berrettini, ranked seventh in the world, tennis nsw beat France's Gael Monfils in three sets (6-3, 6-4, 4-6, 3-6, 6-2) in the quarter-finals of the Australian Open Grand Prix.

The match lasted three hours and 49 minutes, which witnessed a strong competition between the players for the aces, as Monfils hit 15 services against 12 for the Italian, but he committed 7 double faults compared to only two errors for Berrettini.

This is the first time that the 25-year-old Italian has qualified for the semi-finals of Australia and the second time in a Grand Slam tournament after the 2019 US Open, where he has never won a major tournament title tennis nsw.

Berrettini will face Spanish sixth seed Rafael Nadal in the semi-finals, who also narrowly beat Canadian Denis Shapovalov (6-3, 6-4, 4-6, 3-6, 6-3).

The 35-year-old Spaniard is looking to win the Australian title for the second time in his career after 2009 and 21 in the Grand Slam tournaments and set the record, with the aim of overcoming the Serbian duo of Novak Djokovic and Roger Federer.
